Vango Cairngorm 200 Review

“Arguably the most important piece of kit for any camping experience, choosing the right tent is pivotal…”

Vango’s line of tents for all kind of camping adventures are really popular. The Vango Cairngorm 200 is one of their lighter options, and it’s actually lighter on the bank balance, too. Let’s take a closer look.

  • Flysheet: Protex RS
  • Waterproof to a hydrostatic head of 5000mm

Why Buy the Vango Cairngorm 200?

The Vango Cairngorm 200 offers a lot of high quality material and fixtures for the price you pay. It has a quick fitting flysheet and inner tent, super strong yunan eco alloy poles, and inner pockets for helping to keep things organised.

This is a two person tent, and it’s impressively waterproof. It benefits from Vango’s patented strength in design, too. You can thank the TBS II Tension band system for that! Strength in high winds is, of course, an absolute must!

It tends to be a good choice if you are tired of buying tents that are far too thin or lightly made – the problem with cheaper tents is that they can be a bit flimsy. However, what you get here is an extremely high quality pick that has a large pack size and less weight than similar styles of tent.

Is the Vango Cairngoirm 200 Easy to Set Up?

Yes. Thanks to the flysheet and inner tent largely setting up together, getting the Vango Cairngorm 200 up is remarkably simple.

You’ll naturally need two people to get it set up, but the poles are sturdy enough to stand up on their own, and overall, this is a tent that is remarkably easy to pitch. It probably provides more internal volume than you think from looking at it, too.

Who is Likely to Benefit from the Vango Cairngorm 200?

We’d probably recommend the Vango Cairngorm 200 for backpacking and trekking enthusiasts, particularly as it outstrips much of the competition.

The rain stop flysheet doors here are really nice touches which don’t always come guaranteed with tents of a similar type. Genuine thought has gone into the design of this tent.

We’d probably recommend it to people who are likely to need to pitch up at short notice, and who might not worry too much about immediate comfort.

Is the Vango Cairngorm 200 Worth The Money?

We’d say the Vango Cairngorm 200 is worth the money in plenty of ways, though do keep in mind the type of tent you are buying into.

Camping tents of this kind and this volume don’t always perform well in strong winds or heavy weather, which is why the Vango Cairngorm 200 stands above other 2 person tent systems on the market.

That said, if you really want a tent that gives you tons of space, despite the fact there is a nice porch side here, it is still a little cramped.

However, features such as the fact it’s designed so it pitches quickly, there’s easy packing (fast pack is a must if you go wild camping, of course), and taped seams with impressive waterproofing all make the Vango Cairngorm 200 well worth the cash.

If you need something a little bit comfier, then you’ll probably be camping in a different way to how the Cairngorm 200 is intend for use.

It’s great for wild camping and, as the name suggests, trekking up various Scottish mountains with. Give it a look!
